Antique wooden trunk box with metal plates and hardware including contents as follows, a letter dating 1873 in frame from The Office Commissary General of Subsistence in Washington, D.C. in copied ink and also handwritten in ink for a late Lt. Colonel stating he ‘has rendered all required returns and accounts for subsistence funds and supplies for which, at this date, the records of this office show him to have been accountable. Very respectfully Sir, your obedient servant. Signed (hard to make out) from the assistant to Commissary General of Subsistence to the late Lt.Co. in care of L. Wilson and signed to bottom left (housed in a black frame trimmed in gold hued paint), a vintage Southwestern style wool blend blanket in shades of red, blue, brown and off white and a 1906 copy of ’The Most Delectable Nights of Strapaola of Caravaggio’ The first complete translation into English of Le Tredici Piacevolissme Notti De Messer Givanni Francesco Straparola with an introduction and notes (the first of two volumes), Paris, 1906 (Front page states ‘One thousand copies of this work have been issued for subscribers in England and the United States. The No. of the present copy is 859’), copyright Paris, Charles Carrington, publisher of Artistic, Folklore and Historical Works, 13 Faubourg Montmartre, 13, 1906.

Condition

Missing leather handles on trunk, signs of age, book is poor (some pages have become separate from binder and front page which is torn), fraying on edge of blanket, preview for personal assessment.
