Civil War and World War II Uniform Parts
Item Details
A pair of Civil War and World War II uniform parts. There is a reproduction Civil War-era ‘Kepi’ or ‘forage cap’, with brass insignia, It is made of dark blue wool with a leather brim and leather strap, with brass buttons affixing the strap on both ends. The crown of the hat has a brass letter ‘A’ sewn over a light blue left-facing crescent moon, with a brass stamping of a horn below, and the number ‘82’ in brass numbers, signifying the wearer as a member of Union infantry, Regiment 82, Company ‘A’. Also included is a vintage World War II-era dark blue wool or flannel cape, lined with a lighter blue wool or flannel material, with two button tabs at the neck. The cape would have been part of an army nurse’s uniform. The nurse’s name, ‘Miss R. L. Shepard’, is sewn to the edge of an inside pocket, along with her initials, ‘R L S’, which are sewn just below the maker’s tag at the neck. The letters ‘P.H.’ are embroidered in yellow to both sides of the stand-up collar (likely indicating the hospital unit to which the nurse was assigned.) A label at the inside back neck is marked ‘Standard-ized – Made By Standard Apparel Company, Cleveland, Ohio’.
