An optical illusionary world map by Manifestations Inc. The gold foil map is laid out in two spheres, each with great detail and latitude and longitude lines. The map spheres are surrounded by Old World imagery, including putti, sea creatures and portraits, with Latin wording across the top translating roughly ‘A new map of the geography and description of waters of the whole world.’ An explanation of the process of making the piece is included to the verso, and states ‘First we do a drawing of our design in fullest detail with a pen and Indian Ink. From this drawing we make a plate which, impressed upon a metallic surface, produces varied depths that convey an iridescent effect and the illusion of movement.’ Unsigned, but with complete descriptive information to verso. Ready to hang.
