A framed wool on canvas tapestry depicting a biblical scene of Jacob and his sons. This piece blends the flourish of Rococo with the religious rote of the Byzantine. The tapestry bears hues of cream, olive green, blue, brown, and red to depict a scene of Jacob interacting with two sons. The scene could be the presentation of the Coat of the Many Colors to Joseph, or it could be Jacob’s sons fooling their father into thinking Joseph is dead instead of sold into slavery. The tapestry is done in a Berlin wool work style, with detailing to the folding of skin and fabric visible. The work is housed in an ornate, gold-tone frame with scrolled design and foliate motif throughout. Ready to hang by wire.
