Offered here is an original plein air pastel on paper by Impressionist master Alfred Sisley (1839-1899).

The condition is excellent, in a hand carved frame with U/V protective glass
It appears to be a preparatory sketch for ‘Un Verger – Pommiers et Fleurs
(Orchard – Apples and Flowers’ [1873 No. 61] (see attached image)
Un Verger – Pommiers et Fleurs’ was only exhibited three times: At the Gallery Durand-Ruel 15 February – 1 March 1902 [no. 26], and 1 – 25 1910 [no. 80]. It was not exhibited again until 1937, after the present piece was acquired by Mrs. Hitch’s father. It is doubtful that Gallery Durand-Ruel would have permitted anyone to have copied the work in pastel at the gallery during those exhibitions.
The piece offered for sale here should be compared to the piece sold at auction at Tarjan, Monte Carlo, Monaco on August 2, 2011 (see link).
