Peter Driben Original Oil Painting

An original oil painting of a woman playing cards with a chicken by Peter Driben (American, 1903-1968). Driben was an American artist from Boston, Massachusetts. He studied art at the Sorbonne in Paris, and became a pin-up artist after a successful series of ink drawings of Paris showgirls. Driben went on to do cover art for popular culture magazines. During World War II, his well known painting of the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima brought him considerable attention. Driben served as Art Director for the New York Sun from 1944 until 1946. He finished his career living in Miami, Florida, painting portraits (including one of Dwight D. Eisenhower) and other fine art works.
