A handwoven wool Kashan area rug. The carpet has a deep vermillion red, outlined field with a large mirrored central medallion with pendants, populated with ornamental flower blossoms in ruby, garnet and vermillion,with a circular center featuring pale blue and indigo. The wide main border has a turtle pattern and is flanked by compound guard borders in complementary colors.Th spandels are large palmettes in vermillion surrounded by indigo. It has a thick, hand-tied ivory wool warp fringe to either end. Unmarked. Carpets from the Kashan region have been added to the UNESCO world cultural heritage list as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity for their ‘genius in human creative art.’
