Sculpture by Philippe LeJeune
Item Details
An evocative sculpture ‘Cityscape’ by artist Philippe Lejeune. In this piece the artist takes four panels of wood painted in primary colors and anchors them in a wood base with wood spacers on top. Each panel has cutouts that creates the feeling of a cityscape. The panels are interchangeable. Another piece by Lejeune (item 487) is a complimentary painting on canvas. Both the sculpture and painting relate to a large commissioned piece of sculpture from the artist. It was executed in aluminum and never painted.
The artist Philippe Lejeune was born in Garches, France in 1951. He studied at the Academie Julian, Paris and was after admitted at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris where he studied engraving with Yves Heude and Marcel Fiorrini. Lejeune worked for five years as an engraver for the well known illustrator, Jean-Michel Folon. In 1982 he became an etching artist in his own right and worked very successfully in that medium for the next four years, gaining recognition both in Europe and the United States. Living in the USA since 1984, this prolific artist took a new direction in 1987 working in modern media with oil and acrylic paintings and, for the first time, sculpture.
