A pair of books on the poetry of Heinrich Heine. Heine’s Book Of Songs translated by Charles G. Leland (Henry Holt and Company, New York, 1874) is bound in green cloth with a gilt shield on the front cover and gilt lettering on the spine. The edges are beveled, and the top text block is gilt. With a beautifully decorated front cover is the book Poems And Ballads Of Heinrich Heine translated by Emma Lazarus (Hurst & Co., New York). The cover edges are beveled with all text edges gilt. A wonderful two volume collection of Heine’s prose, several pieces which were put to music.
Condition
Normal shelf wear for age and usage. Pencil markings are found on the front endpapers. One volume has a cracked front hinge.
