Larry Rivers Mixed Media Print "Republique de Guinee"
Item Details
An original limited edition mixed media print on wove paper with deckled edges utilizing color pochoir, acrylic airbrush and hand-drawn graphite additions by well-listed Modernist Pop artist Larry Rivers (1923 – 2002), titled Republique de Guinee, dated 1977. The work is hand-signed, dated, and marked edition 48 of 100 in pencil to the lower right. This piece is not framed, mounted on white cardboard and presented in a clear vinyl sleeve.
Rivers belonged to the second generation of the New York School of painters. He was a proficient draftsman whose work formed a connection between Abstract Expressionism of the 1940s and ‘50s and Pop Art in the ’60s. Rivers is considered by many scholars to be the ’Godfather’ or ‘Grandfather’ of Pop art, because he was one of the first artists to merge non-objective, non-narrative art with narrative and objective abstraction
