The top of the hutch features a step back design with the two doors slightly in front of the two sides. The top cabinet features two long solid mahogany shelves with an incised plate ledge to each shelf. The cabinet is fronted by two glass front doors and two side panes of glass, each decorated by graceful cutout mahogany veneers. The cabinet latches with a key, and original key is enclosed. The attention to detail with this wonderful example fine furniture of the mid-century continues with the serpentine front of the bottom half with a curving ogee edged transition piece to the top. Each drawer and cabinet door features flame mahogany veneers and they have all been artfully cockbeaded. When the drawers are pulled out, the casings are solid mahogany whose tops have been beveled to reduce wear. The drawers each feature dovetailing. There are three center drawers that ascend in size to the bottom and each of these drawers feature a pair of round bails with foliate designed bronze pulls. These are flanked by two small drawers over large cabinets. The front corners of the bottom part of the hutch features Federal style incised detailing over carved acanthus leaf detailing. The piece rests on four carved bracket feet. The carving, and glass front hutch combine to give this piece both a delicate and substantial feel. The back of the piece is solid mahogany and marked 45.HUTCH.MAH. See similar pieces 16LEX091-074 and 16LEX091-077.
