Antique Hand Painted Wood Carved Elephant

Item Details

An antique hand painted elephant. This Indian style elephant was carved from wood and hand painted in the late 19th century. It has a dark brown body with an ornate caparison or cloth covering its back and head. The cloth is depicted with florals and scrolls in a gold tone on a orange background with a black boarder. The elephant is posed with the trunk held upwards and its legs in mid-stride. It is affixed to a rectangular shaped wood base.

Condition

- one tusk is broken off but included
- crack along one ear
- some chips to wood at mouth
