Japanese "Sankō-jō" Noh Wood Mask

Item Details

An antique Japanese Sankō-jō Noh wood Mask. ‘Noh’ is a theatrical art form that has been handed down through generations and has been labeled one of the world’s oldest performing arts. The Sankō-jō mask represents a ‘Commoner’. With deep lines on his cheeks and forehead, this mask could portray a powerful fisherman struggling with a rough sea or perhaps a stout farming working under the blazing sun. The Japanese wood masks are often made of a type of Japanese Cypress wood.
