"Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life" by Todd Oldham
Item Details
A sumptuously-decorated combination art book and biography, Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life, by Todd Oldham (American Modern Books [AMMO], 2009). Charley Harper (1922-2007) was a beloved Cincinnati artist who created brilliant, graphic (and often very funny) illustrations of wildlife. Harper was known for a style he called “minimal realism,” in which he sought to capture the essence of objects using as few visual elements as possible. This book was designed by Todd Oldham and Kelly Rakowski and has lavishly illustrated flyleaves and full color images on virtually every page of art works from throughout Harper’s career. AMMO books on its website calls this book “the definitive monograph of artist Charley Harper’s six-decades-long career,” and states that, “Renowned New York-based designer Todd Oldham rediscovered Charley’s work in 2001, and collaborated closely with him, combing through his extensive archive to edit and design this stunning AMMO Books release.” A trio of loose Certificates of Authenticity signed by Harper’s son, Brett Harper, are tucked in the back cover of the book.
