A pair of ornate gilt wood frames that were hand crafted by artist Robert Moore (R.M). Kulicke. This pair features two highly ornamented carved frames featuring scroll and acanthus leaf detail throughout. Neither frame has a backing, glass, or hanging mechanisms at the back.
Robert Moore (R.M.) Kulicke (Pennslyvania, 1924-2007) is remembered as renowned artist and picture frame designer. Following years of service during World War II, he returned to New York City to open a frame shop. While in New York he designed the “Kulicke frame”, a frame that was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art in 1956 for use in traveling exhibitions. He also designed a lucite frame for the museum’s photography collection. He was titled “the most innovative and influential picture frame designer in the United States” by the New York Times. His reproduction frames have been used in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Kulicke is also an established painter whose work can be seen in collections in the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
