Iron and Brass Footman, Circa 1890

An iron and brass footman, circa 1890. This footman has a woven cover on top with tassels that is removable. The handles and top are made of copper-tone brass and the rest of the body is iron. A footman was used for keeping plates and dishes warm before a dining room fire; however, this footman has been used as a footstool, hence the woven cover.
