Vintage Finnish Hand Woven Wool Rug
Item Details
A vintage, Finnish, hand-woven wool rug. Designed by famed textile artist Elsa Montell-Saanio (1926- ), the traditional style rug features stripes in different colors and widths, dyed artificially and by using vegetable dyes. It has cream fringe and a large, braided tassel. A tag stitched to the corner reads ‘Lapin Raanu Handwoven In Lapland Finland, Arktinen horisontti [Arctic Horizon], Design Elsa Montell-Saanio’. The design represents the Folk Art tradition of raanu rugs by Northern Europeans.
