Van Briggle Pottery Art Nouveau Style Center Bowl and Figural Flower Frog

Item Details

An vintage Art Nouveau style Van Briggle Pottery center bowl and figural flower frog. In a turquoise tone glaze, the flower frog depicts a nymph feeding a swan/goose, which rests on an oblong scalloped-edge shallow bowl. Van Briggle Pottery is established by Artus Van Briggle in 1899 in Colorado Springs, where he is known as having a passion for pottery, working to recreate soft matte glazes known previously only to Chinese artists. Although an already established painter and notable artist at Rookwood Pottery, Van Briggle developed his fascination for Ming glazes, and later moved to Colorado Springs to establish his pottery. These pottery pieces are marked ‘Van Briggle, Colo. Spgs’ with logo on both flower frog and bowl.
