Signed Bruce Turnbull Driftwood Sculptures
Item Details
A pair of signed Bruce Turnbull driftwood sculptures. Well-known sculptor Bruce Turnbull has lived and worked near the rural village of Kahakuloa on Maui’s northwestern coast for decades. This setting allows him to take inspiration for his sculptures from the nature surrounding him. Of his work in wood, he states, ‘The design is already there. I simply bring it to life by taking away what hides it.’ The large piece featured here has a polished smooth finish with a female nude in bas relief. It is carved to the reverse, ‘Bruce Turnbull / Maui Hawaii / ’69.’ The smaller sculpture also features a female nude. It is signed to the underside, ‘Bruce Turnbull / ’70.’
