An original monochromatic watercolor painting of a figure by well-listed American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989), created in 1943 (per consignor). The painting depicts a minialistic seated female figure in brown. It is signed to the lower right. Presented behind glass in a speckled gilt wooden frame with white and beige double matting; ready to hang.
Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
