An original pastel drawing titled Mask After Mask Fell by well-listed American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). The drawing is an abstraction with hues of purple, green, and brown. It is signed in pen to lower left and titled in pen to the verso. Presented behind glass in a gilt angled wooden frame with beige matting; ready to hang.
Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
