Hoe Won Watercolor Painting, Circa 1950s
Item Details
An original mid-century watercolor on paper, circa 1950s, signed Hoe Won (Korean) to bottom right. The subject is a pastoral winter scene of women near a stream with an isolated bridge structure to the background. The form and style is muted with soft coloring, resulting in a visually appealing image. While there is very little biographical information available about the artist who signed his paintings “Hoe Won,” the artist used Latin script as opposed to Korean characters, indicating he may have primarily painted for foreign buyers in response to the influx brought by the war that might appeal to visitors wishing to take a part of their Korean experience home.
