A Harrison Begay printers’s proof offset lithograph titled, Navajo Squaw Dance. The 1983 printer’s proof depicts a man and a woman standing inside a dancing circle of girls and boys while others look on outside the circle. The Navajo are portrayed in vibrant colors of purples, yellow, blues, greens, and oranges. Marked in plate, ‘Haskay Yahne Yah. Harrison Begay’ and in pencil underneath the proof, ‘p/p Haskay Yahne Yah. Harrison Begay 9/23/83.’ The proof is in a raspberry and pink blush double mat with a silver toned metal concho featuring a blue stone within a thunderbird symbol. The concho is in a small window to the bottom of the mat. The print is underneath glass and housed in a gold toned frame with a reeded design. There is a wire to the back for hanging and written in pencil, ‘Navajo Squaw Dance. Printers Proof~Limited Edition. Harrison Begay.’ Listed artist, Harrison Begay (his Native American name: Haskay Yahne Yah) was born in 1912 in Arizona and passed away there in 2012. He is well known for his Southwestern and Navajo themes.
