An artist-signed print by Robert Redbird. Well-listed artist Robert Redbird (1939-2016) was a Kiowa Native American, born in Lawton, Oklahoma, and raised by his grandparents. Redbird was known for his themes of Southern Plains Native Americans and subjects, particularly the Indians of the Kiowa culture. He worked in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pencil and pastels. He received the Historian Artist award at the Hollywood Indian Stars Awards in Beverly Hills, and served as a cultural consultant for the movie ‘Dances With Wolves’. In 1981, he was listed in American Artists of Renown by the Wilson Publishing Company. The print depicts a pair of Kiowa hunters struggling through a snowy woods, a brilliant blue sky above. The artist’s signature, ‘Robert Redbird – Kiowa’ appears at the lower right. Information about the print is handwritten on the verso: ‘Winter Storm – Artist Robert Redbird – Kiowa – 497/1000’. The print is presented under multiple layers of custom-cut mat board under glass in a simple, dark brown wood frame.
