An 1838 and 1853 poetry book. The volume entitled The Parlour Scrap Book For 1838 was published by Carey Lea & Blanchard, Philadelphia, 1837. The tissue guarded plates are black and white engravings. This volume is bound in blind stamped black leather with elaborate designs on the front and back covers. The lettering on the spine and the edges are gilt. The volume entitled The Poets Of the Woods: Twelve Pictures Of English Song Birds was published by Thomas Bosworth, London, 1853. This volume features 12 tissue guarded circular mounted chromolithographic plates. Bound in brown pebble grained leather with beveled edges, this volume has gilt decorations on the front and back covers. The spine has five raised bands and gilt lettering. The three edges are gilt.
Condition
Frayed covers, foxing, cracked spines, and loose text blocks consistent with age and usage. One volume has an unattached front spine. Inscription written on front endpaper of one volume.
