Audubon's "The Quadrupeds of North America" in 3 Volumes

A very rare complete three volume set of The Quadrupeds of North America, written by John James Audubon and The Rev. John Bachman, was published by V.G. Audubon, New York, 1854. These impressive volumes contain a total of 155 hand-colored lithographic plates that are tissue-guarded. The plates drawn from nature by John James Audubon and John Woodhouse Audubon were finished by hand by W.E. Hitchcock and R. Trembly. All were printed by J.T. Bowen of Philadelphia. The three volumes are bound in dark brown pebble-grained morocco with five raised bands on the spine. Gilt decorations are found on the front and back covers and the spine. The lettering on the spine and text edges are gilt. A sewn-in book mark is found in each volume.
Condition
Bindings are tight, and text is clean of all marks. Slight foxing to interior and fraying to the covers.
