Vintage 1920s Candy Store Cash Register
Item Details
A vintage 1920s candy store cash register. Marked ‘The National Cash Register Co. – Dayton, Ohio, USA’, the ca. 1921-22 cash register features wooden drawers with plastic or celluloid inserts. Pressing the keys allows the dollars and cents to pop up in a window at the top, with one dollar being the highest possible dollar amount. A marble slab is attached to the machine, just above the drawer. These were used to help sales clerks to detect phony coins. [When authentic (silver) coins are tapped on marble, they make a distinct ringing sound, whereas phony (non-silver) coins make a dull tapping sound.] A steel plate attached to the register is engraved with the serial number ‘1894903’ and the number ‘711’, indicating this machine is a class 700 register.
