L. Paupin Antique Oil on Canvas Portrait
Item Details
An original oil on canvas painting circa 1910, signed ‘L. Paupin.’ The stunning painting depicts a young European woman in simple clothes sitting in a field. She holds a garden tool in her hands and sits among bright poppies as heavenly yellow light washes over her upturned face. Mountains, possibly the Swiss Alps, rise behind the picturesque scene. The painting is completed with amazing refinement, combining elements of both Impressionist and Luminist schools. The painting is signed in red to the lower right, and is covered in a glossy clear coat. It is presented in a stunning antique Arts and Crafts style frame with cast texture and gilt finish. A wire is attached to the verso of the piece for hanging.
Condition
- craquelure is developing across, consistent with age. Two small chips are visible near the left center edge of the piece. Light scratching and wear across frame, consistent with age.
