A hand-colored chromolithograph reproduction of an oil painting by Sir Luke Fildes (English, 1843-1927), titled The Doctor. The painting depicts a doctor leaning over a sick childly, who is lit by a beam of mysteriously heavenly light in an otherwise dark, dreary room. A third figure, likely the child’s father, gazes with a concern expression towards the pair. The print is unsigned. It is presented behind glass in a unique wooden frame with a dappled texture and swirling pale blue and orange trim. A wire is attached to the piece’s verso for hanging, along with a tag that reads ‘Recovered by JHR Rogers Jan. 18 1964.’ This was likely when the hand-coloring was added.
