An original oil painting on board. The work depicts a Rococo style portrait of Sterne’s Maria and Her Dog Silvio, inspired by a character from the novel Sentimental Journey. The work is framed in a sunshine-like oval and set in a wooden frame with acanthus appliqué. A label to the back is illegible; possibly titled and artist name, dated 1793, York.

- frame has some distressed areas.
