Complete Set of 1943 Norman Rockwell "Four Freedoms" Illustration
Item Details
A complete set of Norman Rockwell’s 1943 Four Freedoms illustrations. Includes Freedom of Worship, Freedom From Want, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom From Fear. This series, inspired by Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 1941 State of the Union address, was illustrated by Rockwell in 1943 and printed by the US Government Printing Office. They depict, respectively, eight worshippers of various religions praying alongside one another, a matriarch serving dinner to her family in display of family values, sole dissenter Jim Edgerton standing to speak against the building of a new school at a 1942 town hall meeting in Arlington, Virginia, and two innocent, blissful children being tucked into bed by their father who holds and newspaper recounting the events of then-ongoing World War II. All four images are mounted in thin blonde wooden frames behind protective glass.
