A 1880’s German-made Whittaker’s Planisphere. This intriguing paper device was created to show the principal stars visible for every hour of the year from a latitude 40 degree North guidepost. The planisphere is designed with a star chart with constellations as the under layer, and a rotating over layer with hours of the days to the outside. The guide has four ornate scrollwork-decorated corner, and detailed instructions to the back. This planisphere was printed in 1902.
