Assortment of Limited Edition Cincinnati Landmark Plates
Item Details
A collection of fifteen limited edition fine china plates depicting Cincinnati, Ohio, landmarks, each based on the artwork of noted Ohio cityscape artist Caroline Williams. The plates were made in England by Wedgwood and Barlaston exclusively for Newstedt-Loring Andrews of Cincinnati. The plates feature transferware images of eleven Cincinnati landmarks printed from the pen and ink drawings of Caroline Williams. The collection includes_Elsinore Tower_ (one), Riverfront Stadium (one), Cincinnati Art Museum (one), The Spires of Cincinnati (two), The Mount Adams Incline (one), Music Hall (one), Suspension Bridge (one), the Delta Queen (one), Bridge in Eden Park (two), Taft Museum (one)_, Immaculata Church (one), Kemper Log Cabin (one), and Sycamore Hill (one). Each plate is marked, and has a paragraph about the landmarks to the underside. The images are signed in-plate. The plates have an embossed and scalloped rim with additional transferware images of detailed floral and foliate elements.
Williams, (American, 1909 – 1988) whose work appeared as A Spot in Cincinnati in the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper for more than 50 years, was celebrated for her love of the architecture of the Queen City. The newspaper said of her, ‘In her own way, this talented person can be credited with preserving landmarks, many of which are fated to the bulldozer and wrecker in the name of progress,’ in 1968.

Condition
- to fair, three plates have discolored yellow residue to the front surface from a previous purchase sticker. One plate has surface residue, cleaning is recommended.
