Civil War Union Canteen and Canvas Haversack. The metal canteen has a wool cover for insulation and three metal loops to accommodate the cotton sling and strap. for carrying purposes. Using a stencil, the canvas haversack has stamped on the inside of the flap, the initials that appear to be ‘F’ a upside down ‘P’, and ‘P’. There is a bone button and a loop for the closure of this bag. With the long strap, soldiers slung these over their shoulders and carried supplies and even oats for their horses.
Condition
Good to fair considering age and use; The haversack has stains and shows wear at button; the canteen is stained and the wool covering has been resewn; the canteen is dented. The plug is most likely inside the canteen as there is something inside that rattles around.
