Vintage Black-and-White Photograph of Actress

A vintage black-and-white photograph, circa 1920, of a woman, surmised to be actress Adelaide Thurston, printed by Lewis-Smith: The Blackstone, Chicago. She wears a stunning Art Nouveau ensemble, an elaborate dress with a bird’s wingspan design sewn onto the chest as well as an embroidered eagle’s head. She wears a spectacular headdress of rhinestones that resembles a peacock’s body, flanked by two eagle wings on each side. The woman holds her head high and sits very tall and proudly. This gorgeous relic of the past is protected behind antique glass and mounted in an impressive gilt frame with cast gesso applique, a hand-painted floral medallion sits in the top center. To the verso, a sticker from The Closson Art Galleries, Cincinnati, is attached.
Condition
- applique of frame is cracked throughout. A chip in the applique to the upper left corner. Scratches throughout frame.
