Pair of 19th Century Japanese Woodblock Prints of Women

Item Details

A pair of 19th century ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock prints depicting young women. The first is an 1891 print by Ogata Gekko (1859-1920) titled Two Ladies Watching Chrysanthemums in the Gardens. The artist’s chop mark is printed to the lower left, and the title is printed to the upper right. The second is an 1898 print by Miyagawa Shuntei (1873-1914) with various common titles, including Morning Tea and A Visitor. The artist’s chop mark is printed to the lower right, and printer’s marks are printed in the lower and left margins. Both prints are unframed, awaiting your choice of presentation. They are currently stored in an acetate slip case.

Condition

- both prints have extensive yellowing and accretion, consistent with age. Small rips and creases mark their margins. A series of small holes and rips are visible in the upper right corner of the first print listed above.
