Dora McCollister Oil on Board "Royal Palm Gardens"
Item Details
An original 1939 oil on board painting by well-listed Ohio artist Dora G. McCollister (1860-1945), titled Royal Palm Gardens. The painting is lightly a depiction of Floria, where McCollister created a lot of her pieces around this period. According to a note on the verso, the painting depicts a bougainvillea shrub growing through the broken roof glass of a squat greenhouse. Two figures sweep the walk near the greenhouse. The painting is unframed, awaiting your choice of presentation. It is unsigned, but comes directly from a large collection of the artist’s works. It is titled and dated in pen on the verso. McCollister graduated from the Columbus School of Art and Design in 1932 and was the first fine arts graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design (Sarasota, Florida), in April 1937.
