Tom Lohre Oil Painting of Woman with Falcon

Item Details

A vintage original oil painting by contemporary Cincinnati artist and inventor Tom Lohre, dated 1977. The painting was completed two years after Lohre’s college career, which was the experience that shaped his future artwork and especially this particular painting, as he met his ‘master,’ painter Ralph Wolfe Cowan, and learned from him the academics and rudiments of his method. The image of this large, life-size painting depicts a stunningly beautiful woman standing barefoot on a high cliff overlooking a vast, green, mountainous valley, wearing a simple pale green gown and holding a falcon in her left hand. She represents the ‘Nine of Pentacles’ of the Tarot deck of cards. The precipice on which she stands is modeled from New York’s Central Park; the vast land she overlooks is modeled from a National Geographic image of the Tennessee Valley. She commands attention as she gazes downward at the viewer and takes on an angelic, other-worldly quality beneath a surreal dark blue sky with billowing white clouds rushing all around her. Tom Lohre has signed and dated the painting in red paint to the lower right. This fantastic, conversation-inciting work of art is housed in a magnificent beveled wood frame with gilt finish and decorative cast borders.
