French Rococo Style Mantel Clock
Item Details
A French Rococo style mantel clock. The clock top is made of cast metal in a bright gold tone, higher in the back than in the front and open below the escapement drum. The frame is ornate reticulation with scrollwork, acanthus leaves, rose blossoms and foliage, and having a heart shape to the front of the base. An acanthus leaf pattern encircles the clock face. The face has decorative hands and Roman numerals, each surrounded by a floral and leaf embossed pattern. The escapement is housed in a drum sealed to the rear with six small screws. Under the escapement in the front on the rear piece is a lacquered cardboard transferware Neoclassical image of a courting couple in a landscape setting. To the reverse, the clock has another image of a courting couple in a garden embossed to the escapement cover, and a scrolled heart shape below. The clock rests on a beige stone composite base and ball feet (please see condition details). Unmarked.
Condition
- to fair. Untested. The ball covering the post of the rear left foot is missing. No winding key is present.
