Antique Restrike of Utagawa Kunihisa Ukiyo-e Woodblock
Item Details
A 1910-1920 Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock restrike of an 1880 print by well-listed Japanese artist Utagawa Kunihisa (19th century), titled Washed Hair (also sometimes referred to as Beauty). The print depicts a young geisha in a stunning robe standing and combing out her stunning black hair. The artist’s chop marks are printed to the lower right. This print is double-matted in black and red, and is presented behind glass in a thin black wooden frame carved to look like bamboo. A wire is attached to the verso of the piece for hanging, along with a small card with information about the piece in both English and Japanese.
Condition
-paper is slightly discolored, consistent with age. Light debris is visible between glass and matting. Scratching across frame.
