A July 1st, 1876 hand-tinted wood engraving illustration from Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper, depicting the 1876 Republican National Convention in Cincinnati’s Exposition Hall (the precursor to Music Hall, built on the same site in 1878). Specifically, it depicts the moment when Ohio Governor Rutherford B. Hayes was announced as the party’s nominee for President. Hayes went on to win the extremely contentious election of 1876 despite losing the popular vote. The illustration is protected by a plastic sleeve and has a white paper backing.
