An antique halftone relief reproduction (a precursor of modern offset lithograph) of a silhouette of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall (1755-1835), likely by travelling silhouette artist William H. Brown. Brown created paper cut silhouettes of famous figures with ink wash backgrounds in this style. This silhouette has Marshall’s signature printed in-plate in the lower margin. The words ‘John Marshall C.J. U.S.’ (Chief Justice, United States) are printed faintly in the puddle of ink at the base of the image. This print is unframed, awaiting your choice of presentation.
Condition
-paper is yellowed and has water damage across. All of the edges have rips across them.
