Rare Signed Philip Pearlstein Original RTP Or First Proof Lithograph

Item Details

A rare, signed Philip Pearlstein (American, born 1924) RTP or first proof 1972 lithograph titled Girl on A Blue Coverlet. Features a seated nude woman executed in terracotta red on a blue and red, textured wool coverlet. Work is signed to the left, with text that reads ‘Right to Print’.

An RTP print is the first proof which meets the aesthetic approval of the artist for the publishers to proceed and create the edition according to the standards of that specific print. Later editions of this print were published by Landfall Press with Pearlstein and Jack Lemmon.

Philip Pearlstein is an iconic modern American painter and draftsman known for his unapologetically realistic nude figure studies and paintings. Philip Pearlstein lead the resurgence of American figure painting in the early 1960s. He concentrated on the realistic depiction of the nude figure, a traditional subject that had almost vanished from the contemporary art world at the time.

Pearlstein’s work is in over seventy museums collections in the United States, including the Art Institute of Chicago, The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of American Art, amongst others.
