An original oil on board painting of a boat on water attributed to the well-known Cincinnati artist Bessie Hoover Wessel (1889-1973). The painting depicts the reflective surface of water with a sailboat to the top. The sails are reflected to the bottom of the painting. There is a worn off signature to the lower left. Presented without glass in a gilt frame; ready to hang. Wessel, known for her portraits of children and Native Americans, studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy. She studied with Lewis Henry Meakin and her not-yet husband Herman Wessel. Together Bessie and Herman became leading figures in the art world of Cincinnati.
