Vintage Amelia Earhart Designed Steamer Trunk

A vintage steamer trunk designed by famous aviator Amelia Earhart. The trunk features a black stained canvas exterior with grommet design around the edges. Two leather handles are to either side of the trunk. A small plaque to the top of the lid reads ‘Design and Specifications by Amelia Earhart. Welded Wood Base – Lighter – Stronger. Newark, New Jersey.’ Two latches and a lock hold the trunk closed, operated by clasps and key; the lock is in working condition, the key is provided. The lock and key are made by Eagle Lock Company, and the key is marked 56V18. The interior is cedar and features a removable, compartmentalized tray. Included are the original quality inspection card and the storage suggestion sticker to the tray. Amelia Earhart designed clothes and luggage to help fund her many expeditions. Using her celebrity status, her designs were popular and widely successful. Upon her disappearance in 1937, the demand remained high for Earhart-designed luggage until late into the 1980s and 1990s. This trunk is believed to be from the early to mid-twentieth century.

Condition

- scuffing to exterior of trunk. The key has rusting but still in working condition. Handles are in poor condition with cracking and fraying of black coating and material.
