An original Impressionist oil painting on canvas attributed to well-listed artist Jose Fabri-Canti (1916-1995). The painting depicts a charming seascape of a boat on a warm summer day. It features a fisherman mending his nets in the effulgent afternoon sun. Utilizing impasto techniques, this painting was rendered in stylistic soft pastels punctuated by the bright orange of the buoy. The canvas is housed in a carved gilt wood frame. The work is not signed, however, is accompanied by the original gallery provenance.
Listed artist, José Fabri-Canti, born Jozef Fabrikant May 29, 1916, in Nice, France. He began his career in Corsica where he exhibited in Bastia. Fabri-Canti then travelled to Paris where he was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts and resumed his studies and with Chenavard, Roux and Gabriel Ferrier. In 1943, he exhibited at the Maison des Lettres and obtained The Rome Prize in 1946. In the 50’s he was appointed to represent France at the International Exhibition of Sacred Art, along with Chagall, Rouault, Maurice Denis, and Desvallières Manessier. Afterwards, Fabri Canti enjoyed great success in Switzerland and in Washington D.C.
