David & Kidder's Antique Magneto Electric Machine

A David & Kidder’s patented Magneto Electric Machine made for patients with nervous disease. This hand-cranking machine made in 1854 is mounted inside of a wooden box with the directions of use affixed to the inside of the lid. The machine was created to deliver electric shock to its users via two cylindrical sheet metal handles attached to metallic cords joined to either side of box.
