A collection of Currier and Ives, Adams china. This collection consists of 14 plates made in England by William Adams & Sons exclusively for B. Altman & Co. decorated with scenes from prints published by Currier & Ives. One plate is from the series ‘Winter Scenes’ and is title ‘Home in the Wilderness,’ depicting a country home in the middle of winter and the edge of the plate has a holly design. All of the other plates have gray edging with pink and yellow flowers and depict scenes of American life. Titles are: ‘Husking,’ ‘Woodcock Shooting’ (of which there are two), ‘The Road-Winter,’ ‘Home to Thanksgiving,’ ‘Winter in the Country: The Old Grist Mill,’ ‘Yosemite Valley – California: ’The Bridal Veil’ Fall,’ ‘A Midnight Race on the Mississippi,’ ‘The Rocky Mountains: Emigrants crossing the plains,’ ‘The Star of the Road,’ ‘American Express Train,’ ‘The Clipper Ship Sweepstakes,’ and ‘American Homestead – Autumn.’
