Antique Domed Wood and Metal Steamer Trunk

Item Details

An antique wood and metal domed steamer trunk. The domed top features curved wood slats over black metal straps which are riveted to an unpainted tin body and the leather handles are original. There are traces of a name on the trunk as well as various numbers. The bottom is supported on wheels. The lock is marked ’Patent’D Mar 69’ with a star and key for the Star Lock Works of Philadelphia (established 1836). On the interior a removable tray has a domed lidded compartment with original lithographed elements. The interior wood is cedar and the blue, brown and cream floral fabric is a later addition.

Condition

The hasps and leather strap on the interior dome compartment are replaced. Wear consistent with age and use.
