Circa 1896 Dutch Silver (.833) Ornate Lidded Box
Item Details
A circa 1896 Dutch silver (.833) ornate lidded box. The box has a hinged lid, rounded corners and claw feet. There is an ornate repousse botanical design throughout framing the scenes that include people dancing to the top of the lid, the same tavern scene of men sitting at a table to both ends and the same tavern scene of men and women standing and sitting to both of the sides. The piece is marked with the lion passant to the underside with a number ‘2’ indicating the second purity mark and a minimum sterling of .833. There are two marks to the edge of the lid; the Minerva assay mark (the letter indicating the specific assay office could not be read) and a letter date code which appears to be for the year ‘1896’.
